Ants in the house: what to do
Ants follow scent trails to food and water. Killing the ones you see rarely solves it, because the nest is somewhere else.
Why they come inside
- Food crumbs, sticky spills and pet food.
- Moisture around sinks, dishwashers and leaky pipes.
- Small cracks around windows, doors and foundations.
What helps
- Wipe trails with soapy water to break the scent path.
- Clean up crumbs and spills, and keep food in sealed containers.
- Fix leaks and dry damp areas.
- Seal the cracks where you see ants entering.
What to avoid
Spraying the ants you see with household spray can split a colony and make them harder to treat.
Larger ants
If you find ants in wood, or small piles of wood shavings, tell us when you book. Carpenter ants need a different approach and are quoted separately.
Treatment
For common household ants we find where they get in and treat the source with gel or spray, with a six-month guarantee.
